The shop master went to Summer Sonic 19 day 2 which was held in Aug.17 and was headlined by The Chainsmokers.

This column is going to be a report of that.

If I say conclusion first, the day was the day for EDM.

Day 1. The foreign big artists such as Chili Peppers, Rancid on the show according the purpose of the summer sonic at the time.

 

Day 2. New kinds of music played on the day; this year was EDM.

 

Day 3. On this year a Japanese artist played as headliner for the first time in Summer Sonic history, this year was B'z. 

We can understand festival organizer's device on the festival.

This column will introduce the impression of each artist's show.

As the festival starts, we went into the festival site.

First, we exchanged ticket with wrist band like following picture.

 

Soon after that we received a leaflet with line up of three days.

And following is the  time table of Day 2.

This is a map of the Osaka venue.

The stages are located at Maisima Sonic Park which is special venue installed at northern Osaka port(Hokuko).

The address is Hokuko Ryokuchi 2, Konohana-ku, Osaka-shi, Osaka.

As me and my friends waiting on the gate of there the sound of the Seven Nation Army White Stripes’ anthem resonated.

It was the anthem for everyone, so the audience was going crazy.

11:00 Cash Cash : on Ocean Stage

Actually they have been active since 2002, but they were treated like a new comer on the show and that makes this band really fresh.

 

They were started as the combined music with EDM & pop punk,

but the show was started with the stage with only DJ booth installed and the sound was rather EDM than pop punk which is really hot now.

12:10 Kyary Pamyu Pamyu with Yasutaka Tanaka : Mountain Stage

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is reigning as the top runner of the Japanese EDM scene whose music is combination of EDM and Kawaii(cute) culture.

The producer Yasutaka Tanaka is the forefront producer who produced EDM idols not only Kyary but also Perfume.

The mountain stage is the second biggest stage which capable of 20,000 people and she appeals to not only Japanese but also foreign people who are interested in Japanese culture.

 

This stage became very valuable one because both Kyary and Tanaka was on stage. 

 

13:50 The Regrettes : On Massive Stage

 

This is a smallest stage in Osaka which has roofs both above the stage and the auditorium.

 

The stage is behind the Mountain Stage.

 

In August, weather in Osaka usually becomes hottest.

 

Festival organizer considered it and installed this smallest stage.

 

Additionally, if you get symptoms like heat stroke during the show, there is a first aid installed on the stage, so it is the stage thinking about audience very much.

Finally, barrier free seat is installed so handicapped people can enjoy the show.

 

Audience can enjoy listening music with having lunch during the show under the environment protected by roof.

Usually, Japanese new comer band and indie band play here, but we saw American girls garage band The Regrettes.

 

The Regrettes is a garage band from LA and they come from indie scene there, they made debut from the label Warner Bros. with the album HOW DO YOU LOVE?

 

Shop master loved this band the most on the day indeed. The sound was consisted with the 90’s alternative and 00’s garage rock music and the voice of vocal reminds me the Hole.

The sound was 00’s garage like the Strokes or the Libertines.

Intermission 

The shop master could buy festival specialty and gifts on this period of time and enjoy some beer. 

If you interested in the festival and wanted to come for shopping, you better to go the gift shop first because gifts sold out really soon.

16: 30 Alan Walker: On Ocean Stage

His music is alike Cash Cash but he is really young; he is 21(2019).

His music is played all over the world.

Especially, his signature song Faded is played on the You Tube for over 200,000,000 times; he is currently hitting.

He was born as a millennial generation and interested in computer graphics very early period of his life so that makes his show rich.

His show was festival highlight except the headliner.

 

On the stage, electro dance music was playing seamlessly.

That was perfect performance to excite audiences.

20 : 00 The Chainsmokers on the Ocean Stage

They played as a head liner on the show for the first time.

This electric duo made a wonderful performance to audiences.

Before managing this shop, shop master did not know that there is this kind of music is hot in the world but they were the one who is the origin of today’s musical fad.

Not only the just EDM but vocalized performance that fits the ending of the show very much.

To avoid the festival crowd and to going back to the home on time, the shop master go back to the home before the finale of the show.
