Rock ‘n’ Roll in the early period was introduced into the market by producers of the blues.

Chess brothers produced Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley.

Chuck Berry went to Chicago for recording and consulted with Muddy Waters.

Then, Waters introduced Chess to him.

Sam Phillips recorded African-American singers before producing Elvis Presley and other white country bands.

Thus, the blues and other Afro-American music captivated non-black audiences.

Talented non-white rock ‘n’ roll musicians started covering the Delta blues and Chicago blues songs with their own individual interpretations.

The Rolling Stones covered I Just Make Love To You by Muddy Waters, and Eric Clapton covered Kind Heated Woman and Love in Vain by Robert Johnson.

In press conferences, the Beatles would name Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley as artists who had inspired the group.

Bob Dylan explained in his autobiography how he was shocked when he listened a Robert Johnson record for the first time.

By the beginning of the 1960’s, genres influenced by the blues such as rock ‘n’ roll and soul music were part of mainstream music.

Chapter
will describe biographies of southern country bluesmen who were later known as blues giants.

By interpretations of their lyrics, the Chapter will also describe what kind of lives African-Americans in the South led, and what kind of emotions they had.
