He formed an electric band in Chicago in 1947.

The Muddy Waters Blues Band included amplified second guitarist Jimmy Rogers, and harmonica player Little Walter.

Both of them were Delta blues musicians who came from Helena, Arkansas.

The band also included pianist Otis Spann and a drummer.

The following year, the band began recording for the Chess label, which was a newly formed company run by Lenard and Phil Chess.

There, Muddy Waters recorded two tunes named I Can’t Be Satisfied and I Feel Like Going Back, and they became smash hits.

Then, he toured England in 1958, and had an impact on audiences with his loud sound.

After that, although Chicago became Waters’ home for the rest of his life, he played the blues and toured all over the world until the 1980s.

Waters’ achievement was to bring rural elements of the Delta to the big city of Chicago.

More specifically, he electrified folk style Delta blues and developed it into the band style.

Later the band style electric blues in Chicago was known as “Chicago Blues”.

In addition, he won the hearts and minds of British audiences through his tours of Europe.

His influence is tremendous over a variety of music genres especially British rock ‘n’ roll.

In fact, the Rolling Stones named themselves after Muddy Waters’ song Rollin Stone , and covered his song named I Just Want To Make Love To You:

I don't want you to be no slave

I don't want you to wake all day

I don't want you to be true

I just want to make love to you

I don't want you to wash my clothes

I don't want you to keep our home

I don't want your money too

I just want to make love to you, love to you, love to you, love to you

(snip)

In this way, southern Delta blues was brought to the northern cities and developed into Chicago blues.

Additionally, jazz which originated in New Orleans, Louisiana also introduced to Chicago with the Great Migration, and later Louis Armstrong from New Orleans became an innovator of the music.
