This is the no.1 of series column which reports about Summer Sonic Festival to Internatinal customers.
Summer Sonic is two days rock festival which is held from 2000 and it continues to be held until present.
In 2000, it is taken place in Ymanashi and Osaka.
However; the place of Kanto region Yamanashi is changed into its place to Tokyo in 2002
(actually it is Chiba Prefecture. For international PR, festival organizer called the place as "Tokyo" )
In the method of festival management, organizer modeled Reading & Leeds festival for Summer Sonic.
Under this model, festival is held on two places, and as the festival schedule progresses lineup exchanged between Osaka and Tokyo.
The concept of the festival is "easy to go to the festival on a day trip" in other words "summer festival held in the city"
At the very beggining of the festival the line up was categorized as international Rock.
However, as the year passes by, to fit music fans preference the musician's genres are changed into various ones.
Following is the 2019 line up.
If it was at the beginning of the festival launch, artists such as Red Hot Chili Peppers & Rancid was chosen to be the guest.
However, as years pass by and audiences preference changed, various genre of performers came to Japan to play on Summer Sonic.
For example, Baby Metal is girls metal band who is active internationally.
Maybe the band was chosen to be a performer because this is international festival and there, artists who appeal internationally was needed.
Additionally the band is frequently touring with Red Hot Chili Peppers, so Chili Peppers' fans know the name of the band "Baby Metal", so there was a possibility to draw Chili Peppers' fans attention.
B'z is the leading hard-rock duo who is active since 80's, and the band's music is mixture of aspects of western music and Japanese music.
They are one of the best selling artist in the world and in Japan so if they could contain them as line-up, the festival might appeal internationally.
As international customers know it very well, Aran Walker and The Chainsmokers are Electronica projects who are active in English speaking countries.
Like this, Summer Sonic organizers have keen sense of management to build up festival line up.
